The subject of today’s repair is a beautiful exposed aggregate patio that had seen better days. Designed to enhance the outdoor living space, this patio encountered a significant issue — uneven settling. The center joint of the patio, running parallel to the house, had failed. As a result, the two halves of the patio sank, disrupting the surface's integrity and creating a hazardous slope. The inner half of the patio developed an excessive slope away from the house, while the outer half tilted back towards the structure. This uneven settling not only posed a tripping hazard but also compromised the aesthetic and functionality of the patio space.
Our Approach:
The solution involved a meticulous lifting process using polyurethane, a method that Acme Concrete Raising & Repair specializes in. Here’s a breakdown of how we tackled the problem:
Assessment:
Initial inspection to understand the extent of settling and plan the lifting process.
Preparation:
Drilling of strategic injection holes, designed to be minimally invasive while allowing for maximum support.
Lifting Process:
Injection of polyurethane foam under the patio slabs to raise them back to the desired level. This high-density foam expands beneath the concrete, filling voids and stabilizing the substrate.
We carefully monitored the lift to ensure both sides of the patio were lifted evenly, eliminating the previous tripping hazard and restoring proper drainage away from the house.
Finishing Touches:
Patching of the injection holes with a specially formulated cement that includes pea gravel, blending seamlessly with the existing exposed aggregate finish.
Final cleanup and inspection to ensure the lifted patio meets our quality standards and client expectations.
The Result:
By the end of the project, the patio was transformed back to its original level and even state, with all sections properly aligned and the surface integrity restored. The slope was corrected to ensure safe, efficient water runoff, safeguarding the home's foundation and enhancing the usability of the outdoor space.
